Election of Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln became our 16th president in 1860. He first started by running for senator of Illinois but lost to Stephen Douglass. Lincoln wanted slavery to be abolished. He passed the Emancipation Proclamation law that said all slaves will be released on January 1st 1863. Lincoln played a big role in abolitioning slavery by writing this document. He also didn't believe in state rights. In his opinion Federal Government was the best choice, which eventually was the main government.
